Empty mares
to be inseminated - We work closely with Revelwood Warmblood Stud to ensure your
mare is inseminated to your chosen stallion as quickly and efficiently as
possible. Revelwood having many years of experiance and a resident AI vet,
together with KL who has been breeding and using Revelwood (15 mins away) to
inseminate all of KL's broodmares, we can assure you rmare will be in foal in no
time. Pregnant
mares- We care for pregnant mares who are to foal down. Your mare will be
brought up to a top paddock with 3 rails (HorseSafe fencing) a shelter,
automatic waterer and lgiths to foal down or in a large mare and foal stable in
bad weather to foal down. Your mare will have a foaling alarm on that will set
off to notify staff of your mare foaling down. Experianced staff will assist
when needed when your mare foals, assist the foal to stand and watch until it
has its first drink. Vets are on call incase of
emergancies. Mares with
foals at foot- KL has 2 large Spelling paddocks for mares and foals. Shared
with other mums and bubs until the weaning process. Mares with foals will be
brought up regularly for handling, booster shots, worming
etc. Weaning-
This process is a very important one as it is when the mare and foal are to
seperate, usually around 6 months of age. At KL we have the safest Weaning
process. The mares and foals are brought up to the stable complex and each pair
recieves a box each. The mare is then taken away from the foal and put into a
large spelling paddock away from the foals sight and sound. The mares generally
dont mind leaving their little ones behind and settle within a day, whereas the
foals will be a little more tense about the situation. The foals are
individually handled in the stable by staff for a few days and lead around the
closed stable complex. Over a few days the staff lead the foals in and out of a
paddock close by and once confident that the foal is well handled and able to
lead we put them together in a spelling paddock. Yearling
Handling- During the time the foal is weaned till they are yearlings they are
regularly handled and brought up for worming, feet trimmed etc. Yearling
handling includes tying up (both normail and in cross ties) having a bath,
injections, rugs on, fly veils on, float training etc. Breaking
in- At KL we currently dont do breaking but we are happy to recommend breakers
for both performance and race horses. FOR MORE
